“The Sound of Silence” là một bài hát được sáng tác bởi Paul Simon và được thu âm ban đầu bởi Simon & Garfunkel vào năm 1964. Những dòng mở đầu bài hát, “Hello darkness, my old friend, I’ve come to talk with you again,” mang một giọng điệu u sầu, gợi ý rằng người nói đang tìm kiếm một sự an ủi khi đang cô độc. Bài hát tiếp diễn với những câu từ mô tả âm thanh của sự im lặng giống như một mãnh lực vừa có thể khiến chúng ta thoải mái, vừa có thể cô lập chúng ta.
